The members and friends of Lord of Life embrace our mission statement - We are called to know God and love one another. Lord of Life is a Christ-centered congregation, whose purpose is to be the hands of feet of Christ in the world. Our ministries and activities bring purpose and joy to our community. Take a look at what we do. We invite you to participate in our ministries!
Active Older Adults
The Active Older Adults is a group of members that are young at heart. This is an opportunity for members 50+ to meet for fun and fellowship. We typically meet once a month for various social activities, Bunko, lunches, tours or general entertainment. Join the "fun and frivolity"!
Women's Bible Study
Women of the church meet on alternate Tuesday mornings for Bible study.
Women of the ELCA (WELCA) Bible Study
They meet on the second Thursday of the month at the church, 5:00 PM. The theme for January and February is "Being Made New." All women are welcome, and can feel free to come to any or all sessions.
Young Mother's Bible Study
The Young Mother's Bible Study meets twice a month on the first and third Tuesday and kids are welcome, as babysitting is provided. As a group we choose the study we will use, and past studies have ranged from looking at troublesome Bible passages to balancing life's many demands.
On the last Tuesday of each month, Lord of Life Book Lovers gather at a members' house to discuss a book and enjoy food, drink, and good company. We read all types of books, and book choices are decided by consensus. It is a very casual group and anyone is welcome.
Fair Trade Coffee, Tea, and Candy
We sell Fair Trade Coffee, Tea and Candy at Lord of Life.
Coffee is big business. But sadly, it is often an unjust business.
A lot of coffee is grown by small-scale farmers in poor, isolated regions. In conventional trade, middlemen often force them to accept low prices that don’t even cover their production costs, let alone basic living expenses.
The more conventionally-traded coffee and tea we buy, the more we perpetuate this unjust way of doing business. With Fair Trade, however, farmers get a fair price while coffee (or tea) drinkers like us enjoy a gourmet product for about the same price as conventionally traded varieties.
For each pound of Fair Trade coffee, tea, cocoa, sugar and snacks you order through the Coffee Project, Equal Exchange donates $0.20 to Lutheran World Relief’s Small Farmer Fund.
The men of Lord of Life meet every Saturday morning for breakfast and fellowship at the Coltrane Café at 7:45 AM.
Prayer Teams and Prayer Chain
Lord of Life has two Prayer Teams who pray for the members, the church, the community, and the world. One team meets on Wednesday afternoons and the other meets on Sunday mornings.
The Prayer Chain is another way for the congregation to offer prayer for those in need.
Project66 Community Food Pantry
Lord of Life continuously collects no perishable food items for donation to the Project66 Community Food Pantry. Project66 Community Food Pantry is a non-profit, faith-based ministry providing food to families of need in Edmond, Arcadia and surrounding communities. The distribute food to families in need in cooperation with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
Adult Sunday School
Adult Sunday School is at 10:45 AM on Sundays during the school year. There are two Adult Sunday School Classes to choose from. All are welcome!
1 - The Ole TV Class is Studying "The Cathedral". This is 24 sessions on DVD. To step inside a Gothic cathedral is to step inside the visual essence of the Christian faith - a world filled with vaulted ceilings directing our gaze heavenward, stone sculptures capturing both the blessings of salvation and the horrors of damnation and stained glass windows illustrating powerful religious stories in dazzling color. Utilizing 3-D photography, this course, conducted by noted scholar William R Cook, immerses viewers in how these cathedrals were built, their hidden secrets and their significance both to people of the past and present.
2 - One of our adult Sunday School classes meets in the Women’s Room off the Gathering Space on Sundays from September through May each year. We study varied topics during the year, usually in 6-week segments. Bible fluency, one of the goals of the class, is achieved through individual study and small group conversation. The purposes of our studies are to celebrate our faith, fellowship with each other, renew us, and strengthen us for mission in the world.
Children's Sunday School
Children, beginning at age 3, meet for Sunday School at 10:45am following worship. We begin with an opening prayer and songs and then go to our classes. We are using Holy Moly Curriculum. Every Holy Moly lesson follows a four part sequence: Discover, Relate, Connect, and Create. Each week kids watch an animated bible story video, talk about the story, read their bible storybook or bible, and try a creative leaflet activity.
Women of the ELCA (WELCA)
Women of the ELCA is for all Lutheran women! All women are welcome, for any event at any level. The Lord of Life WELCA meet for a monthly Bible Study.
The Oklahoma City area has three WELCA events per year - Spring Gathering, July Salad Supper and December Advent Lunch. In addition, there is a weekend Synod convention once a year in the Fall. Every three years there is a National convention, which in 2014 is located in Charlotte NC.
The magazine "Gather" is produced for WELCA and is full of wonderful articles and there is an online magazine http://www.boldcafe.org.
